Turbo manifold test fitting

Yeah, this is really why I cleaned up that side of the engine.

I'm developing a turbo conversion for another MGB, but since I had the access to the left side of the engine on this one, I used it to test the fit of the exhaust manifold build up.

Bent frame rail extensions

The RH side front frame rail extension was still bent down about 1/2" out of position from the prior collision damage. Left hand side is quite worse - mangled in fact.

After straightening.

LH frame rail extension is so bad I'll have to cut it off for repair.

FL Wing collision repair

The car had been shunted in the front and rear at some point in its history. My guess is that the driver rear-ended the car in front first, then it was in turn rear ended from the car following.

Here's some of what I've been dealing with today, Nose of the LH wing underneath the bondo.

After some dolly work. The metal was getting paper thin and cracking in some areas from the liberal use of a body grinder by the previous repairman.

After welding up the holes and the cracks. Had to lay in some metal at the corner edges to build up the thickness. Kept blowing holes through the paper thin metal that was left, so lots of booger welds. I'm undecided whether I'll cut some of this out and replace it or just mud over it.

Engine excavation

Getting ready to pull the engine, I wanted to clean the sludge covering the left side so I could find some of the bolts.

Here's what came off just with a scraper:

Hey, there's a blue engine under there! (who paints an MG engine blue?!)

Here's where most of the oil leakage was probably coming from. See the tappet cover gasket squished out of position? This is why I never use those fat silicone rubber gaskets on the front tappet cover. This is what always happens.
